UBC Get Ready to Shake Out

From 2009-2010, more than 250 UBC employees received certification through RMS's Occupational First Aid Level One Training.

This October marks UBC’s third time participating in the province-wide ShakeOut BC earthquake preparedness exercise.

On October 18th at 10:18 a.m. we will:

  • Drop, Cover and Hold on for one minute
  • If there is nothing to get under, move to an inner wall
  • Move away from windows and falling hazards

The recent 8.9 magnitude earthquake in Japan and 6.3 magnitude earthquake in New Zealand serve as reminders that earthquakes can happen anytime. In BC, minor earthquakes are not infrequent (1,200 are recorded each year in BC) and a major earthquake will eventually occur in Vancouver.

On October 18th, get together with friends, colleagues and family to practice your earthquake preparedness. Get ready to shake out by reviewing our Earthquake Preparedness Procedures.
