Smoking at UBC
Smoking at UBC is restricted to designated smoking areas as per UBC Policy #15: Smoking and Smoking Product Promotion on Campus. The policy is intended to diminish the exposure to smoke and to promote health and safety by reducing exposure to second-hand smoke and side stream smoke.
In particular smoking is prohibited:
- in all UBC buildings
- 6 meters from any doorway or building air intake, such as an openable window or air vent
- in all UBC vehicles
- in (and 6 meters around) bus shelters
The day-to-day implementation and enforcement of Policy #15 is the responsibility of staff and faculty, the supervisors or individuals directly in charge of a given area or activity within an area, and UBC Campus Security.
Note: UBC Smoking Cessation Programs are offered to faculty and staff through the Employee and Family Assistance Program.
